IT’S ON: From carriage rides to aerial city tour, it’s all happening next year
KUALA LUMPUR: TOURISTS visiting the city centre next year can expect a series of exciting new attractions in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014.The attractions include ;
- carriage rides along the iconic Dataran Merdeka,
- a Gran Turismo Street Race,
- Kampung Baru Heritage Trail
- a helicopter aerial city tour at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa.
At a recent press conference on the KL New Year Countdown 2014, Mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib said that the preparations to usher in the events for VMY 2014 is under way.
Phesal also outlined the city's tourist arrivals target for VMY 2014.
A total of 15 million tourists are expected to arrive at the capital next year.
Phesal said that the number of visitors would comprise 10.1 million foreign tourists and 4.9 million domestic tourists.
He added that the tourists in the city are expected to bring in more than RM24 billion in revenue.
"With more tourism products, services and events, I am confident that the target set for tourist arrivals can be achieved," he said.
Phesal added that City Hall's Tourism Unit (Visit KL) would continue to collaborate with Tourism Malaysia to increase promotional activities to attract more people to the city.
Kuala Lumpur Police Management Office chief SAC Datuk Aidi Ismail said that a special unit has been formed to assist tourists.
"An International Liaison Unit has been set up to assist the arriving tourists.
"The ILU which was officially launched earlier this month comprises of over 300 multilingual police officers who will assists tourists and liaise with the respective embassies."
